About

This blog came into being to serve a few specific purposes.

First, we have friends and family who are curious about what home-based learning looks like for us. I don't set out to answer any specific questions here (unless you ask them), but hope to offer some insight and clarity by inviting folks to observe and poke around.

Second, both myself and my oldest son (currently an exclusive home-based learner) love the little bit of structure that the idea of school provides.  So, we're hanging a shingle on the web and calling it our Academy.

Third, I (mom) needed a place where I could put a circle around the learning experience in our home; both actual and intended.

For my purposes this a great place for:

1. Recordkeeping (keeping track of day to day activities and learner interests that tend to wax, wane and jump around)
2. Storing learning resource information
3. Storing sources of learning theory/philosophy that pique my interest and inspire me.

Last, I wanted a "living document" for my family of the learning energy and environment in our home - as it is and as it evolves. A blog is a great place to capture and preserve details of diverse and dynamic topics such as learning.

A final note: I don't anticipate this being a place where I talk about learning and schooling ideologies and beliefs, but you'll certainly get a flavor for where we generally stand by looking around a bit!
